Spaying or neutering your pet can help make him or her have a longer, healthier life. It also prevents them from roaming around the neighborhood looking for a mate. The earliest a cat or dog can be spayed it 5 - 6 months of age. An exam is required prior to surgery. (procedure must be done within 2 weeks of the exam.)
When your pet is dropped off the morning of their scheduled spay/neuter, he/she is brought to the back and placed in a cage or run and made comfortable.
When it is your pet's turn for his/her procedure he/she is brought into the treatment room for a quick limited exam to ensure he/she is well enough for anesthesia.
After that, we begin the sedation process. When sedated he/she is intubated and cleaned/prepared for surgery, and then moved into surgery.
After a successful surgery, your pet is placed into a large cage in the treatment room with a heating pad and many comfy blankets. Someone is always by your pets side when he/she wakes up to ensure there are no complications and to calm him/her if they wake up scared or nervous.
The doctor and staff frequently check on your pet and the incision site throughout the day once he/she has awoken from the anesthesia.
Your pet stays the night to recuperate, get another pain relief injection in the morning if needed, be assessed if he/she needs pain medicine to go home, and have another limited exam.
We will set up a discharge time for you to pick up your pet and speak with the doctor for either early afternoon or in the eveining.
